A black and white portrait taken around 1955 of Ella P. Stewart. Mrs. Stewart was the nation's first African-American woman pharmacist. As pharmacists, she and her husband William "Doc" Stewart became involved in their community giving advice and help on employment, housing and food. An advocate for human rights, Mrs. Stewart served as president of the Ohio Association of Colored Women and the National Association of Colored Women. Mrs. Stewart died in 1987 at the age of 94.
